I work with individuals and couples in ongoing sessions. I also offer deeper intensive work for couples and individuals upon application.
I’m Emily Stone, a clinical psychologist with over two decades of experience, training and working at some of the major admitting and teaching hospitals in Sydney.
I was clinically trained, gaining my Bachelor of Psychology and a Master of Clinical Psychology and earning the University Medal at Sydney University and several scholarships for my academic achievements. This gave me a solid grounding in human psychology and pathology, diagnosis and treatment.
I worked on large government granted research projects, presenting at International Research conferences and completed various research theses and publication contributions.
While the beginning of my career was focused on traditional training and mastering the biopsychosocial/medical model and current best practice base, I felt there was ongoing training and experience that would augment the solid university clinical grounding that I received.
While extremely qualified and experienced in clinical diagnosis and the treatment of disorders, I was driven by an insatiable desire to teach people how completely they could transform and transmute their current difficulties.
I don’t accept a limited life and will unwaveringly support other people to achieve the heights and depths they desire.
If anyone has the credibility to build from the existing clinical base with creative growth interventions it is someone with such a solid foundation in the clinical world who has seen the parts that work and the parts that are sorely lacking.
Too many coaches (an unprotected label so anyone can use it without adequate training) complete deep work without any of the foundations required to do this credibly and safely.
Similarly, many clinically trained therapists need to go deeper, however focus more on symptom management rather than healing deep wounds.
Similarly, there is a tendency to target surface skills while ignoring the underlying dynamics that drive ruptures within ourselves and others. Ruptures and disconnects within ourselves leads to symptoms, addictions, compulsive behaviors and patterns of being in the world that are fixed, rigid and unhelpful.
Ruptures with others creates the epidemic unhappiness and disenchantment we see in the friendships, families and the relationship sphere. I do not settle for just naming and labeling symptoms and syndromes and teaching simple management strategies.
I want to help you understand the origin of the symptom, see how it shows up in your life and why, and help you find your own solutions and wisdom to live the way you would truly prefer.
When medicine progressively became management and not healing, I started to grow my repertoire of intentional modalities that built on those I had clinical grounding and training in. I needed more because you needed more.
What you will feel in sessions with me is a tenacious belief in our shared human experience as well as the unwavering challenge to myself and you to be the most honest, best version of ourselves.
There is no experience or trait in you that will be judged but I will expect you to be honest.
You will be held with compassion and respect but expected to want to acknowledge what is in your control to do differently.
It is a co-created environment in the therapy room where I will help you to make sense of the things not working for you and help to establish the insight and disciplines or practices to pivot your life and take full responsibilities for how you would like it to be.
Full responsibility for ourselves can be the most healing way to leave childhood and live adult life, no longer stuck in survival patterns and conditioning that we did not choose but inherited.
There is no bigger expert than the one you have forgotten is within yourself.
